The Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS) plans to locate its first high-end retail store in China, "Man Is In The Forest," in Shanghai, China Business News reported quoting Guenther Hake, Disney's head of consumer products in Greater China. The high-end store will expand in London, New York, Guangzhou and other major global cities, the report said.
According to the report, sales of consumer products are Disney's main income source in China. Disney operates "Disneykids" stores targeting first- and second-tier markets and "Toonsland" stores for second- and third-tier cities. The company currently has 12 Toonsland and 800 Disneykids and other retail stores, but plans to expand its network to 500 Toonsland and more than 1,500 retail locations including high-end-focused stores in China in the next two years.
Disney received approval for its Shanghai Disneyland Resort project in November 2009.
